The ongoing problems facing the UK economy have not dented the popularity of the Caerphilly county borough as a visitor destination.
Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration welcomed the latest figures released by Caerphilly county borough council, “These encouraging results clearly show that the area remains a popular choice for visitors thanks to the range of historic attractions and breathtaking countryside on offer. These draws, along with hugely popular events such as the annual Big Cheese weekend and the forthcoming River of Light lantern parade, are really helping to put Caerphilly on the map and we hope this success can be sustained in the future.”
Caerphilly Visitor Centre, opposite the town’s magnificent castle, continues to receive a steady stream of visitors from across the globe wanting to find out what’s on offer within the area. Almost 40,000 visitors have passed through the doors since April 2010.
The bed booking service offered by the centre is also performed exceptionally well and was boosted a result of the booking fee being waivered and the phenomenal interest generated by the Ryder Cup.
Cwmcarn Campsite and Visitor Centre is also performing well overall with campsite income in excess of targets and much improved on last year. Over 110,000 people have visited the popular countryside destination so far this year.
Cwmcarn has become a key destination for mountain bike enthusiasts from around the world who flock to the site to enjoy the white-knuckle downhill trails that have been developed there.
