Caerphilly county borough council is to receive a £1.9 million grant boost from the Welsh Assembly Government after hitting a number of performance targets.
A special ‘Improvement Agreement’ has been made between the council and WAG as part of council’s contribution to the Assembly’s ‘One Voice Wales’ policy.
When the council signed up to the agreement it pledged to work towards a number of performance targets in areas such as improving services for vulnerable people, improving school meals, reducing the authority’s carbon footprint, increasing recycling rates and improving the highway network.
In total there were eight agreements and a special scoring system was used to determine whether targets had been met. Out of a maximum score of 16, the council achieved an impressive 14 points and is therefore eligible for the full grant allowance of £1.9 million.
Cllr Colin Hobbs, CCBC cabinet member for performance management welcomed the news, “The council prides itself on our commitment to raise standards and improve services for all our residents. We are keen to work alongside the Welsh Assembly Government to improve performance as part of the ‘One Voice Wales’ agenda and we are delighted that this money can now be used on key frontline services.”
The Improvement Agreement has three stages and this was the second stage of the ongoing scheme.
