School pupils in Caerphilly have teamed up with their local PCSO and Community Safety Wardens, to give the area an early spring clean.
Pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili collected six bags of rubbish over two days, during a litter pick in the Virginia Park Playing fields.
Keep Wales Tidy provided the pupils with plastic bags, gloves and litter picks.
Littering is currently one of the PACT priorities for the Morgan Jones ward in Caerphilly.
Local PCSO Emma Taylor approached the school, which is an Eco School, to help clean up some of the litter in the area in response to the concerns of local residents. Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens also lent a helping hand.
PCSO Taylor, said: “Local residents have told us that littering is one of the main problems in the Morgan Jones ward, so we are working to address this. As an Eco School, the pupils were keen to get involved and the pupils did a fantastic job.”
Gareth Hughes, Eco Co-ordinator at the school, said: “As a proud green flag school, we are always keen on working in the local community. It was a great opportunity for our children to contribute towards keeping our locality safe and clean for themselves and others.”
Lynn Griffiths, Head of the school, said: “It’s great that our children gain valuable experience in working with local police officers and local residents to ensure that our communities are kept clean. It was also pleasing that many parents of the children involved also took part in the event, which strengthens the partnership between pupils, parents, the school and the local community.”
The next PACT meeting for the Morgan Jones ward will be held on Friday 26th February at 6pm in St Catherine’s Church.
