Caerphilly county borough council had all its collection vehicles out today undertaking the Friday refuse, recycling and food waste scheduled collections (although the crews may not be able to collect from streets that they cannot access safely).
When they collected all they can on their Friday rounds, they fell back on the missed collections from the last few days. We will have a significant number of vehicles and collection crews out on Saturday and Sunday working to clear the backlog as more areas become accessible.
From Monday we will have crews out on their normal rounds (recycling, refuse and food) with as many additional vehicles as possible on hand to clear the backlog that they may not be able to tackle over the weekend.
Next week they will also start clearing the bulky collection backlog (Residents with missed bookings will be contacted and advised of their revised day of collection).
With regard to the Highway situation, the council is concentrating predominantly on side roads with teams spread across the whole county borough trying to assist in opening up roads onto the main highway network and within estates. They continue to deal with a number of emergencies, funerals and social services requirements. They also concentrated on clearing over 100 school sites across the authority in order that they could open today.
Highway inspectors will be checking all the A and B roads today to try and identify any dangerous potholes that have appeared. Teams are being organised to repair these potholes as soon as possible.
