Young people in Caerphilly are invited to attend a local activity scheme this summer to provide them with somewhere to meet their friends and spend their time.
PCSO Iwan Adams from the Caerphilly Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working with the Manager of Caerphilly Leisure Centre, John Poyner to set up the scheme.
‘The Zone’ will be running at St. Martin’s School from 12pm – 3pm every weekday from Monday 19th July to Friday 13th August.
Anyone who is between the ages of 11 and 16, and is from the Caerphilly and Bedwas areas is welcome to attend.
5 x 60 Officers from Sport Caerphilly and Trecenydd Communities First will be helping to run activities for the young people. Funding for the scheme is being provided by Caerphilly Town Council, with the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership also providing funding for some of the activities.
The activities on offer will include swimming, football, dance, cycling, arts and crafts, dodge ball, and much more.
St. Martins PCSO Iwan Adams, said: “I have been working with the Caerphilly Leisure Centre manager to set up the scheme in the local community to provide young people with something positive to do over the summer holidays. We wanted to provide somewhere to allow them to hang out with their friends and take part in organised activities.
“A wide range of activities will be held over the weeks, so hopefully there will be something for everyone. Neighbourhood officers will also be visiting the scheme to interact with the young people, and help them get to know their local officers.”
Councillor Stephen Kent, Caerphilly Town Council Mayor, said “We are delighted to be associated with this exciting new scheme that offers local youngsters the opportunity to engage in a range of activities that will keep them occupied and allow them to learn new skills. This partnership approach has been very successful and we would encourage as many young people as possible to come along and find out what’s on offer.”

I am sure this scheme will prove popular among local youngsters, and can hopefully become a regular summer activity. ”
