Volunteers cleaning up at Caerphilly Mountain
A whole host of volunteers have taken part in events across Caerphilly County Borough during the council’s Big Spring Clean campaign, collecting over 8 tonnes of litter and fly tipped waste so far.
The Big Spring Clean is an annual campaign encouraging the local community to join together to improve the local environment and make Caerphilly County Borough a more attractive and pleasant place to live, work and visit.
Events have taken place throughout March, and will continue into April and May across the county borough, adding to the daily frontline maintenance work that the council undertakes throughout the year.
Local residents, councillors, school children and the council’s Parks and Tidy Towns Teams have been working hard during the last week of the campaign, improving the look and feel of Caerphilly County Borough.
Fochriw Primary School and St James Primary have pledged to help spruce up their local area and staff at Tesco Crossways have been out and about tidying up the land surrounding the store.
Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said, “In addition to the Council’s routine clean up patrols, individuals and groups have helped to clean up areas off the beaten track and helped to make our environment a cleaner greener place to live work and enjoy. It is humbling to see so many people taking up the challenge to do their bit, and this demonstrates that there is a lot of pride in our area.”
The next community clean up events take place at Dafolog Terrace, Phillipstown on Thursday May 8th at 10.30am, Holly Road Flats, Ty Sign on Thursday 15th May at 11am and Fochriw, Pontlottyn & Rhymney on Tuesday on Tuesday 20th May at 10am – meet at Community Centre, Fochriw and reconvene for lunch at Miller Argent Land reclamation site.
