Commenting on the Assembly Government’s response to a consultation on product placement on television, Shadow Heritage Minister Alun Cairns AM said:
“The Assembly Government’s response to this consultation seems unduly harsh and could threaten investment in new forms of broadcasting in which Wales is playing a lead role at a UK level.
“Ministers in Cardiff are missing the point. Simply banning things is impractical and not the answer. Ministers are also unclear about what products they would seek to ban, and how practical it would be to do so.
“What we need is a targeted, properly funded, and effective government-led campaign to address binge drinking, smoking, and unhealthy diets not the sort of blanket prohibition ministers seem so keen on.”
