Visitors to Caldicot will find themselves stepping back in time this weekend (11th/12th September) as the Early Medieval Alliance presents an extravaganza in the town’s country park and castle. Armoured knights are set to fight in full contact while archers will parade their powerful bows among historical encampments.
The day’s finale will be a battle between Welsh rebels loyal to Owain Glyndwr and the English custodians of the castle. The two armies will confront each other for supremacy and ultimate control.
There will be an opportunity to talk to 15th Century folk about their lives, learn about early guns and to shop in the medieval market, maybe picking up a unique Christmas bargain. Events take place throughout the day, and visitors are welcome to savour everyday life in the Middle Ages and stay all day with a picnic.
Ann Horton, Chairman of the Early Medieval Alliance, said “We look forward to welcoming people to the extravaganza, and hope that they will have fun, learn something new and enjoy the beautiful setting of the Caldicot Country Park and Castle.”
