Stars, planets and the moon are on the agenda at Caldicot Castle from 7pm on Thursday, 18th November for an evening of astronomy. The Usk Astronomical Society is to take over the inside of the medieval fortress and turn it into an observatory.
Visitors will have the chance to use telescopes, learn from an exhibition and planetarium and quiz society members about techniques to observe the night sky. Weather permitting, attention will be focused on our own moon as well as Jupiter with its four moons. Fellows of the Royal Society of Astronomers, an eminent radio astronomer and an expert on the southern skies will all be on hand to answer queries and offer guidance.
The event is suitable for visitors of all ages, and no previous astronomical knowledge is required. Admission is £9.00 for adults, £7.00 for concessions. Parking is free.
