One of Wales’ top hotels has recognised the potential of Caldicot’s historic castle as an attractive setting for fine dining. Owned and managed by Monmouthshire County Council, the castle is to host a mediaeval banquet for guests of the Celtic Manor Hotel’s Castle Fayre to Dragon’s Lair weekend break in mid August.
The choice of the castle is a direct result of its use as a venue for Monmouthshire County Council’s back 2 business week event in June organised to boost prospects for the county’s enterprise and innovation culture. Over the course of four days 640 delegates attended including influential local business people and entrepreneurs.
Monmouthshire’s cabinet member for Modernisation, Enterprise and Communications, Bob Greenland said: “Caldicot Castle is one of the jewels in Monmouthshire’s crown. I’m delighted that the Celtic Manor is to use it as a key part of a leisure break to be marketed world wide. This is just one of many spin offs from the back 2 business event that we expect to see over the next few months (and in itself more than covers the event’s modest net cost of £800).”
Guests will be greeted at the castle by the resident Knight, the Lady of the Castle and the Surgeon to enjoy an array of authentic activities including archery with plenty of fun for all. They will partake of mead and wine before settling down to a medieval feast in the castle’s impressive banqueting hall, complete with live entertainment from minstrels and musicians.
