Caldicot schoolchildren to celebrate St David’s Day at the castle with Bakewell the Dragon

March 1st, St David’s Day, will be celebrated at Caldicot Castle this year by the appearance of Bakewell the dragon, a fearsome looking creature who is a great softie at heart.  Bakewell is actually a robotic dragon and is the only one of his kind in the UK.  He can move all parts of his body at the touch of a button, flap his wings and also verbally responds to his audience.  He’s fond of a laugh and joke.

Bakewell will be joined by pupils from Caldicot’s Castle View School at 11am.  The children are looking forward to meeting him as well as munching on dragon cupcakes and taking part in a colouring competition.

Bakewell’s owner Louis hails from Caldicot and has worked in the entertainment industry for many years in the guise of Wizzo the magician as well as caring for other animatronic pets including Tommy the Toucan.  Bakewell, his latest acquisition, flew in from California only last week.  Quite a feat for a dragon, who is, according to Louis, over three hundred years old!
