Call-out in rough seas for Port Talbot RNLI lifeboat

Port Talbot lifeboat was tasked at 4.10pm on Wednesday (16 February) after coastguards received a Mayday call from a seven-metre fishing boat, which had suffered engine failure and was drifting onto the beach at Jersey Marine.

Sea conditions were quite bad at the time with a strong north-easterly force 6 wind blowing with heavy seas. The lifeboat was soon on scene and the boat was found aground on the beach with the two men on board baling out water that was blowing over the sides.

Once the lifeboat arrived, the two men waded ashore with the help of the lifeboat crew and were put in the care of the Port Talbot coastguards, who were present on shore. Neither man required medical treatment.

Mumbles RNLI all-weather lifeboat and Rescue helicopter 169 from Chivenor were also tasked and stayed in the area until the men were ashore.
