Call to Song – Join the 2012 Eisteddfod Choir

Next week, rehearsals for the 2012 Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod Choir resume after the summer break.  Members old and new are welcome to come to Tabernacle Chapel, Barry at 19.00 on Tuesdays, from 20 September onwards.

One of the greatest social activities the Eisteddfod brings to any area is the creation of the Eisteddfod choir – with an opportunity to perform live in front of an audience of thousands in the Pavilion at a prestigious concert.

Whatever your age, however long you’ve been singing, and whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor or bass, there’s a warm welcome for you to join the Choir for the 2012 Eisteddfod.  What better way to spend long and cold winter evenings than with a friendly group hitting those high notes in preparation for the Eisteddfod in August next year?

Over the past few years, the Eisteddfod choir has been joined on stage by a wide range of famous performers, including Rebecca Evans, Gwyn Hughes Jones, and the world-famous baritone, Bryn Terfel, and the opportunity to perform with such well-known singers is a great incentive for many people to join the Eisteddfod choir every time the festival is held within a comfortable distance to their homes.

National Eisteddfod Organiser, Hywel Wyn Edwards, said, “Over one hundred and fifty people have already joined the Eisteddfod choir, and we’re encouraging anyone interested in singing and living in south east Wales to join us on Tuesday evenings.  It’s a great way to socialise and to support the Eisteddfod locally.  We’re keen to make sure that we have an Eisteddfod to remember here in the Vale next year.  It’s more than forty years since the festival was last held in the region, so please join us in supporting the choir, so we can raise the roof in the Pavilion in August – and show the world what great singers we have here in south east Wales!”

The Vale of Glamorgan National Eisteddfod is held on land at the old airfield in Llandow from 4-11 August next year.
