Questioning the First Minister over road congestion in Cardiff, First Minister Carwyn Jones said that the completion of the Eastern Bay Link Road (A4232) is something he would hope to see.
Eluned Parrott AM said:
“The completion of the A4232 from Cardiff Bay towards Cardiff Gate is something which urgently needs to be looked at. We have a big debate about improving the M4 from the Severn Bridge to Cardiff Gate, to by-pass the congestion associated with the tunnels at Newport, but effective access from the heart of Cardiff to the M4 in the East is absolutely vital.
“Places like Splott, Tremorfa and Rumney are in absolute gridlock during rush hour as cars and heavier vehicles make their way to and from the M4. As a result, people living in the East of the city suffer an increasing burden of noise, pollution and disruption as our residential roads become more and more clogged.
“Finishing the long-planned link needs to be a priority for the Welsh Labour Government and is something I will continue to press them on. Not only would the missing link boost the local economy and infrastructure, but it would improve the lives of thousands of people living on overburdened residential roads in Eastern Cardiff.”
