An announcement that that two schools previously earmarked for closure could stay open has been welcomed by Clwyd West AM Darren Millar.
Denbighshire County Council has announced today that there will be further consultation on proposals for the future of schools in the Edeyrnion area. The Council’s cabinet agreed at a meeting today to consult on a package of four proposals affecting Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch, Ysgol Bro Elwern, Ysgol Caer Drewyn, Ysgol Carrog, Ysgol Glyndyfrdwy, Ysgol Llandrillo and Ysgol Maes Hyfryd. Under the proposals, Ysgol Bro Elwen and Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch which were previously earmarked for closure could stay open.
Commenting on the announcement, Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar said:
‘I’m pleased that proposals to close Ysgol Bro Elwen and Ysgol Betws Gwerfil Goch appear to have been ditched – these schools are at the heart of their communities and their closure would have been disasterous for both villages.
‘It is clear that local people feel strongly about the need to protect their schools and the Council must continue to listen to their views over the next few weeks.
‘Good schools, that are able to deliver the National Curriculum, should not be forced to close their doors without the approval of parents, teachers and governors.’
