Campaign to save sorting office continues

Darren Millar is keeping up his campaign for Colwyn Bay sorting office to be saved from the axe by the Royal Mail.

The Royal Mail recently announced it would be conducting a feasibility study to merge the Llandudno and Colwyn Bay sorting offices, resulting in the closure of the office in Colwyn Bay. Under the plans, around 60 members of staff working at Colwyn Bay would be transferred to the Llandudno sorting office.

Speaking after a meeting with Huw Roberts, the Royal Mail’s Director of Welsh Affairs about the proposed closure, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said:

‘I have urged the Royal Mail to reconsider their plans to close Colwyn Bay’s sorting office.

‘During the meeting Royal Mail assured me that they are exploring alternatives to closure as a result of my campaign.

‘The closure of the sorting office would be a heavy blow for the town. It is one of the largest and most prominent buildings in the town. For the building to be redundant would be a huge setback to all the regeneration efforts that are underway in Colwyn Bay. We must make sure it stays open.’
