Can you help to re-tell the history of the Clio ship

Do you have any information about the Clio training ship which was located off Bangor Pier, or maybe you have some historical artifacts relating to its history?

If so, the Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, Bangor really wants to hear from you. The museum’s staff are currently preparing an exhibition outlining the history of the Clio, a naval training ship moored near the end of Bangor pier from 1877 to 1920.

Alun Thomas, from Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery said:

“The Clio training ship is an interesting part of Bangor’s history, but we are keen to make use of real artifacts and information from local residents so that we can bring the exhibition to life.

“Could there be a Clio cadet’s uniform hiding somewhere in a Bangor attic which could be displayed? We would be very pleased to hear from members of the public if they have items which could be used for the exhibition.”

If you can help please contact Alun Thomas at the museum, on 01248 353368 or by email: [email protected]

The exhibition will run from 12 March until 17 September 2011.

The Gwynedd Museum and Gallery is open Saturday 10.30am- 4.30pm and Tuesday-Friday, 12.30-4.30pm. Admission is free. For more information telephone 01248 353368 or visit the website www.gwynedd.gov.uk/museums
