Can you make a difference?

If you have space in your home and time in your life, why not consider doing something extraordinary and become a foster carer?

Caerphilly County Borough Council is looking for more foster carers in Caerphilly county borough who would be willing to help give a child a good start in life.

Children need to be cared for and looked after so that as they grow up, they can lead full and happy lives. This is why foster carers have such an important role to play, and can make a tremendous difference to a child’s life, while also enriching their own.

The Council is currently looking particularly to recruit foster carers who would be willing to care for children over the age of 10.

Cllr Judith Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “Foster carers make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many children, and I would encourage people to have a serious think about whether this is something they would like to pursue”.

She continued, “Many people I speak to are surprised to hear that the only criteria necessary to be eligible as a foster carer are to have some space in your home and time in your life – those who work aren’t excluded, neither are those who rent their property or those with a disability”.

“Although fostering is a very big commitment to make, the reward of seeing a child that has been in your care go on to make a good start in life is fantastic, and the full training and continuous support we offer our foster carers, I hope goes some way to making their lives that little bit easier”.

Foster carers must be 21 years old or over – there is no upper age limit. As well as full training and continuous support, foster carers are also given financial assistance, including generous fees.
