Cancer charities and scouts benefit from Mayor’s Appeal 2009/10

Last year’s Blaenau Gwent Mayor, Councillor John Williams MBE has presented his chosen charities with the funds from his Mayor’s Appeal 2009/10 – a grand total of £18,600.

The money was shared between In the Pink (for Breast Cancer Research), Blaenau Gwent Scouts and the Hospice of the Valleys.

Blaenau Gwent
Scouts is a registered charity with over 400 scouters and 30 volunteers.

Representatives from the three charities were invited along to the Mayor’s Parlour at the Civic Centre in Ebbw Vale to receive their cheques.

Councillor Williams – an Independent councillor for the Rassau ward for 35 years – served as Mayor of Blaenau Gwent for the 2009/10 year of office.

He said: “I would like to thank everyone so much for the hard work and effort they put in to raise this excellent amount of money for my charities. Well done everyone.

“I would also like to thank the Council’s Civic Team for all their help with organising my appeal.”
