Cancer Support Available in Gwynedd Libraries

macmillan-logoAs this week marks World Cancer Day, Gwynedd Council is highlighting a brand-new service available from four of the county’s libraries.

The new Macmillan Cancer Support information and support service has recently opened in four libraries across south Gwynedd.

This new service is available to anyone affected by cancer, whether you are currently undergoing treatment, have survived cancer or if you are a carer, friend or relative of someone who has or has had cancer.

The service is led by Alaw Mon Thomas-Davies, Macmillan Information and Support Coordinator for Gwynedd Council.

She said: “Our aim will be to offer a wide-variety of support for people – you may have cancer yourself, care for a relative or friend, work as a health professional or simply want to know more about cancer.”

Councillor Ioan Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries added:
“These days, libraries offer far more community events and useful information about a wide-range of services including health and wellbeing schemes.

“The Macmillan Library Service is a new addition to these services – with regular drop-in sessions available at various libraries so that the public can discuss any issues they may have directly with a relevant officer or those who have been through similar experiences.”

Drop in sessions will be held every Friday in Porthmadog (10:00am-12:30pm) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (2:00pm-4:00pm) and every Tuesday in Dolgellau (10:00am-12:30pm) and Barmouth (2:00pm-4:00pm) – all are welcome.

Alaw Mon Thomas-Davies will be available at these sessions to provide information and support on a one-to-one basis. To contact her directly, contact her on email: [email protected] or call 07878448447.
