The task group will work together with other organisations across Cardiff and Wales to identify and raise the profile of existing events whilst also seeking to develop new activities that will help create a festival which reflects modern multicultural Wales as well as its rich Celtic history.
The task group are interested to hear from anyone who is hosting a St David’s Day event or an event that they feel Celebrates Excellence – Made in Wales and also to hear feedback from the public on how they think St David’s Day should be celebrated in the capital. Please email [email protected] with your suggestions or event details.
Cardiff Councils Deputy Leader, Cllr Neil McEvoy, said: “ Cardiff is the capital of Wales and as Deputy Leader of our City, it is my priority to put Cardiff and Wales on the international map, with the new St David’s Day Festival. Wales is a very proud nation, we want to capitalise on this patriotism and create an event that the whole of Wales and ex pat Welsh communities can enjoy.
“Key to the success of the Festival will be ensuring that we secure a co-ordinated effort from the city’s venues, travel, retail, tourism and cultural sectors to best market and exploit the economic potential of developing and hosting a St David’s Day festival and I have been greatly encouraged by the support and enthusiasm of all those on the task group”
“The development of the St David’s Day Festival will be a major undertaking if we are to fulfil our considerable aspirations but we are at the start of a very exciting journey. My first step is to invite people’s opinions on how they feel we should celebrate St David’s Day – I have no doubt that their feedback will be invaluable in creating a truly unique festival for Cardiff and Wales.
Dublin and Ireland have historically set the bar. Wales will be joining its Celtic cousins from now on. ”
