Monmouthshire County Council has renewed the lease on a car park in Bulwark to give commuters from the Chepstow area access to free parking.
The car park is part of the Severn Bridge Social Club in Bulwark and has disabled parking facilities.
Councillor Bryan Jones, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, approved the lease renewal this week (14th July):
“We need to encourage more people to use public transport or to car share.
“Severn Bridge Social Club is ideally situated for onward travel and I want to thank the Club for their co-operation leading to this agreement.
“The car park gives opportunities for commuters to car share and also provides parking for people wishing to use public transport.
“I hope the public will continue to make use of this car park which will be of benefit to them and the environment.”
Alan Browne, Area Services Officer at Chepstow One Stop Shop, said:
“This has been a terrific example of the County Council working with the local community. The great thing about this arrangement is that the parking is completely free for members, the general public and traders too.
“There is a bus stop opposite the club that has buses running into Chepstow town centre and straight into Bristol.
”The car park also has bottle, paper and can recycling facilities, so locals can help the environment even more by bringing along you waste too.”
The car park is open to the public from 7am to 7pm.
The X14, X10 and X14 buses to Bristol take 48 minutes to get into Bristol City Centre. They leave the Bulwark Road bus stop at:
- 7.13am
- 7.27am
- 9.02am

There are no changes to the terms of the existing lease, however the club have indicated that they would have no objection to any reasonable future charging policy in this car park.
