Cardiff at Night – Have Your Say

Cardiff Council is keen to hear people’s views on the city’s night-time economy and how it can be improved.

People are being asked to answer a survey which asks a series of questions about their experience of the city centre at night. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw.

The survey has been devised by the Council’s Economy and Culture Scrutiny Committee who are investigating the night time economy of Cardiff. It aims to find out what the public think of Cardiff at night; whether it is welcoming, clean, safe, is easy to get to and from and offers a rich mix of leisure and entertainment.

The survey is available on Cardiff council’s website and can be found in English or Welsh on:

It includes questions asking what the best things about night-time Cardiff are; whether there is enough alternative entertainment and what has prevented people visiting the city centre in the evening.

People will also be asked about their spending habits, whether they feel safe enough and if the presence of night-time ambassadors, who work on weekends, has helped or not.

Councillor Mohammed-Sarul Islam, Chair of the Night Time Economy Task and Finish group said: “Cardiff is a vibrant, exciting place to visit at night with a wide range of things to see and do.

“We want to ensure that it improves and that the negative things associated with it are reduced. As a part of our investigation into the night time economy of Cardiff we want the public’s views. By completing the online survey you will be helping us to understand what you like and dislike about Cardiff at night and the key things that are needed to improve.”

Once the results have been compiled, councillors will be visiting the city centre at night in September to examine the key issues.

“We wanted to increase the business centre’s influence at night and I think the city was looking at various options of increasing any service in relation to that,” added Councillor Islam. “We always want to push the city forward and to put Cardiff in a better position. I am certainly hoping that this work will do that.”
