Cardiff Blues have announced Cardiff and Vale College as the new education partner for the region’s BTEC Extended Diploma in Rugby Development, Coaching and Fitness, delivered in conjunction with TVS Education.
Aimed at 16-18 year-olds looking to take the next step towards university or straight into a career in the sports industry, the two-year level three BTEC diploma is run from BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park and combines a rugby programme that includes high level coaching and a structured games programme with study towards the qualification.
With the rugby element of the course run by Cardiff RFC and Wales 7s international Luke Crocker, the programme offers a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable work experience and employment opportunities within the regional set-up.
Cardiff Blues community manager Nadine Griffiths said: “We are delighted to welcome CAVC as our new official partner. They are an outstanding education provider, who we already have great links with and look forward to developing further.
“Our aim is to make this course a real centre of excellence and this partnership will only help us in that.
“We are looking forward to enrolling a new crop of high level students this school year, who will become our future development officers, analysts, physios or even players.”
James Young, Head of Sport at Cardiff and Vale College, said:
“This addition to our already packed portfolio of sports courses run from the Cardiff International Sports Campus – our home for CAVC Sport – provides a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of sports industry professionals to live and breathe a sports business, increase their employability and gain vital qualifications.”
“With our CAVC Rugby Academy going from strength to strength, we’re delighted to be joining forces with the Cardiff Blues on another programme to deliver what is a really exciting and unique opportunity for the young people in the region.”
