Cardiff Blues Rugby Club is donating tickets to looked after children in Cardiff.
The team are the latest sporting organisation in the city to donate tickets to children who are in the care of the Council, joining the Cardiff Devils, Glamorgan Cricket, the Football Association of Wales (FAW), Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Cardiff City Football Club.
Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Ramesh Patel said: “We have many looked after children in Cardiff, some of which have experienced terrible circumstances in their short lives.
“We have therefore reached out to leading sports clubs in the area for their support to enable these youngsters to enjoy and experience the excitement gained from watching live sports games in the city.
“Other organisations who would like to be involved are welcome to come forward and express their interest in becoming involved in this generous and positive initiative.”
Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Siobhan Corria said: “It is hugely valuable that children learn and gain from memorable experiences which may not normally be available to them and the Council is pleased that as the corporate parents we have been able to forge these relationships to provide these kind of opportunities.
“We are sincerely grateful to Cardiff Blues and to our other partners who have kindly donated tickets so that these children can enjoy the sporting spectacles that Cardiff is renowned for.”
Other organisations to show their support and generosity for the scheme include the Cardiff Flybe Winter Wonderland and the Cardiff New Theatre who donated tickets for the Pantomime.
There are currently just fewer than 600 children in care at the Council which includes children being fostered and children in residential placements.
