Cardiff Blues flanker and former Welsh international Martyn Williams paid a special visit this week to the NSPCC National Centre for Wales in Cardiff to present the charity with a cheque for more than £10000 – raised during his testimonial year.
Martyn divided the proceeds between NSPCC Cymru/Wales and Velindre Cancer Centre, of which he is also a patron.
Martyn said: “As a family man with two small children, the NSPCC is very close to my heart and during my testimonial year I wanted to do all I could to help protect vulnerable children across Wales.
“I’ve had my fair share of broken bones and black eyes playing for the Cardiff Blues and Wales. Taking the hits is part and parcel of the game I love, but I can’t understand how anyone could hurt a child, especially when I look at my own two children.”
NSPCC Cymru/Wales corporate fundraiser, Zahra Scott said: “We are absolutely delighted by Martyn’s contribution. His generosity will ensure that the NSPCC is able to continue its crucial work with children and young people in Wales.”
