Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival – Next Chapter April 9-13

Cardiff Logo smallChapter Two of the Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival takes place April 9-13 following last year’s successful first instalment, when thousands of youngsters were inspired by some of the best local and national contemporary authors and illustrators in both Welsh and English in almost 50 events.

This year’s programme will be announced on February 1, with tickets on sale from February 3. The line-up will once again feature some big ticket events, presentations by popular children’s authors and illustrators, and educational sessions for schools – all for youngsters who appreciate the magic of books, and grown-ups who want to write them.

Cardiff’s Children’s Literature Festival is produced by Cardiff Council, Literature Wales, Cardiff University and Amgueddfa Cymru/National Museum Wales, and supported by Waterstones.

Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ramesh Patel said: “Last year’s festival brought a great response from both children and adults with high attendances and very positive feedback. We now want to build on that terrific start with this year’s festival, to really help children celebrate the benefits and joy of reading.”

Over 2,500 schoolchildren attended free sessions during the week last March, with a further 3,000 plus children and adults enjoying events throughout the weekend. Amongst last year’s attractions was How to Train your Dragon creator Cressida Cowell, comedian and Young Bond author Charlie Higson, the world expert Tintinologist and Hergé biographer Michael Farr, and Bardd Plant Cymru (Children’s Poet Laureate) Eurig Salisbury.
