Cardiff Council is reviewing primary school catchment areas in the Llandaff North and Whitchurch areas.
As part of its continual review of the supply of and demand for school places, the Council has launched a public consultation on revising catchment area arrangements for the English-medium primary schools serving the Llandaff North and Whitchurch areas. These areas are currently served by the following schools; Coryton Primary, Gabalfa Primary, Hawthorn Primary and Whitchurch Primary.
Since Whitchurch Primary school opened in September 2012, a number of pupils have been admitted by statutory independent appeal to the school.
Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Julia Magill said:
“Delivering high quality educational opportunities to the children and young people of Cardiff is a top priority for us, and part of that aim is to ensure we have a closer match between the number of school places at schools and the number of children in their respective catchment areas.
“We want to achieve a balance between the Gabalfa Primary school and Whitchurch Primary school catchment areas and reduce any uncertainty in admission arrangements which may affect parents and carers and schools in the area. These proposed changes will address this.”
There are no changes proposed to the catchment areas of Coryton Primary School and Hawthorn Primary School.
Parents, carers and residents in the local community are invited to share their opinions and views on the proposals. Full details of the proposed changes including a colour copy of the catchment area map are available on the Council’s website www.cardiff.gov.uk/learning. The revised catchment area arrangements would be implemented from September 2015.
