Cardiff Festival ends on a high with Cardiff Mardi Gras

This year’s Cardiff Festival is set to end on a high this weekend with the fun filled Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras, which will take place on Saturday September 4 at Coppers Field,  Cardiff.

With 20 events taking place across the summer months the Cardiff Festival has already been enjoyed by tens of thousands of people and heralded a great success.

For the first time the Mardi Gras joins the Cardiff festival programme and over 40,000 people are expected to attend the event, which is Wales bigger celebration of diversity.

Coopers Field will be a mix of music, entertainment, fair ground rides, market stalls and much much more. Gates open at 12.30pm  with entertainment until 9.30pm.

Music will play a huge part in the day’s celebrations, with local and national talent performing live. Those attending include last years X Factor runner-up Lloyd Daniels and Pineapple Studios Starman and ex Coronation Street star Adam Rickett. There will also be music from local acts including South Wales Gay Men Chorus, Wendy Kane and Twice as Nice, as well as many more.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “This year’s Cardiff Festival has been bigger and better with thousands of people attending the many events across the summer.

“I am delighted that this year the festival has been extended to include the Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras. The Cardiff Mardi Gras continues to go from strength to strength and has helped to change attitudes and celebrate diversity.

“The event is also a great way to increase understanding about the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and is a fun day out for everyone, offering fantastic free live entertainment that people of all ages can enjoy.”
