Cardiff International Pool has hosted its first ‘Aquathon’ that consisted of a 500m swim and a 6.5k run around Cardiff Bay.
There were 47 entries in total and the age of participants ranged from 15 to 73 years of age. The men’s winner was Stephen Patterson and the women’s winner was Rachel Banfield. They both received a bottle of champagne each and goodie bags with various sporting items from sponsors Moti.
Libby O’Duffy, 41, said: “It was a fabulous event and great to get an aquathon in Cardiff. I am sure I am not the only one who hopes there will be more to follow.”
Kenton Friedl, 36, said: “Organisation was excellent. It was great to do an open water style swim so locally. I hope they are able to do another one in the near future.”
Simon Hughes, General Manager, said: “This is the first time this event has been held at the Cardiff International Pool and it was heaps of fun for everyone involved. We hope to have another one next year with even more entries!”
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “The International Pool is hosting more and more events and it is fantastic to see the community taking part. Congratulations to the winners of this exciting event.”
