Cardiff Older Persons Forum Secure Local Discounts

The Cardiff Older Persons Forum was established in 2005 as part of the development of the Older Persons Strategy for Wales in Cardiff. The forum has helped to champion the rights of older people and provides a great platform for older members of the community to discuss and talk about matters that affect them.

The Chairperson of the forum, Tony Verderame, a well-known local community volunteer and a community champion has recently established a number of discounts with local retailers in conjunction with Penylan and Cardiff Community Concern Group.

Thanks to the forum, older people in Cardiff can now receive discounts from a number of well-known stores, including Boots, discounts of up to 35%, PC World / Curry’s on Newport Road are also providing discounts up to 10%.

Insurance provider Giles Insurance has also pledged to give discounts of 25% off all products and personal assistance to all members of Cardiff Older Persons Forum and Penylan Cardiff Community Concern Group. Discounts are valid on production of Cardiff Older Person forum or Penylan and Cardiff Community Concern Group membership card.

Cardiff Council Deputy Leader and Older Persons Champion, Cllr Judith Woodman, said: “This is great news that Tony has been able to secure the discounts for older people within Cardiff. Tony and the Forum work hard to help make a difference to the lives of Older People in Cardiff, the discounts are a small reward for their commitment and dedication”

Chairperson of the Older Persons Forum, Tony Verderame, said: “This is a very welcome privilege for senior’s citizens who live in the city of Cardiff. I am very grateful to everybody especially to the Deputy Leader,  Cllr Woodman for the supporting the Forums initiatives in reaching out to the community with meetings and bridging the isolation felt by many vulnerable members of the community. Also fostering communications, visiting retirement homes and the Royal Infirmary west wing to name a few and reporting their findings accordingly.

“As Chair it has been a privilege to lead the forum from the front, in partnership with the Cardiff Police doorstep crime prevention, Cardiff Council and others agencies. The achievements and the spirit of the senior citizens of Cardiff have become a symbol of the community spirit in the Capital of Wales.  I would like to thank all members of the above groups for they willing support over the years and to the Deputy Leader Cllr Woodman, John Gorwill, and Lynsey Maher for striving forwards and participating in this scheme. They clearly agree that the Cardiff Older Persons Forum and the Penylan and Cardiff CCG’s work are well worth supporting”.
