Cardiff Park and Ride Receives Award

Cardiff East Park and Ride has been given a prestigious safety award.

The car park, based off the A48 (Eastern Avenue), has been awarded the Park Mark® Safer Parking Award having achieved the standards of its Safer Parking Scheme, including quality management, effective surveillance, appropriate lighting and having a clean environment.

The Cardiff East Park and Ride opened in 2009 and consists of 952 spaces.

Security is contracted out to ‘Senator’ security provide staff 24 hours a day all year round, with a security building on site.

Senator staff are all appropriately trained and licensed and regular meetings take place with Cardiff Council as well as a good liaison with the local police.

In giving the award Park Mark® noted that the car park was well lit with excellent quality security fencing, regular patrols by security staff and CCTV. As a result there have been no reported crimes since it opened.

Councillor Lisa Ford, Executive Member for Traffic and Transportation, said: “I am delighted that the Cardiff East Park & Ride has been given the Park Mark® Safer Parking Award.

“Since it opened in 2009 more and more people have been taking advantage of this excellent facility and it is good that drivers can park their cars safe in the knowledge that they are in a secure environment.”

Cardiff East Park and Ride can be accessed from the Pentwyn Interchange with buses running every 15 minutes direct to Dumfries Place at the end of Queen Street (next to Sainsburys) via a dedicated bus lane.

The cost of the Park and Ride for all-day parking is £3 per car with buses running from 7am to 8.30pm Monday to Friday. Saturdays 8am to 6.15pm and Sundays 10am to 5.15pm. The buses are low-floor, wheelchair accessible and able to take prams.

The  Park and Ride facility is part of Cardiff Council’s Sustainable Travel City initiative, which is partly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
