A Cardiff primary school has returned from the summer break to newly-refurbished facilities that will benefit the whole school and local community.
Cardiff Council has ploughed around £500,000 into upgrading the village hall and interior of Gwaelod Y Garth Primary School as part of its continued investment in the fabric of the city’s school buildings.
Internal alterations have been carried out to remodel and refurbish the existing kitchen and dining areas to accommodate classrooms, and staff areas while two small extensions have been added on to the village hall to provide kitchen and hall facilities, both for the school and the community.
The improvements also include a new meeting room for community-use, increased storage facilities for both the school and community, a new improved entrance area and toilets for both the school and the community and redecoration and refurbishment throughout.
The village hall will only be used by the school during school hours and the ownership of the village hall remains with the residents of Gwaelod Y Garth and continues to be administered by the Village Hall Committee.
An open morning for residents in the village to see the refurbishment work to the village hall will be held on Saturday, September 24.
Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Freda Salway, said: “The investment in Gwaelod Y Garth Primary School and village hall will benefit the children and whole community. I’m pleased we have been able to commit such a considerable amount of funding into facilities in the area as part of our wider plans to ensure school buildings across the city are suitable, fit-for-purpose learning environments.
“The open morning will be a great chance for people in Gwaelod Y Garth to see the improvements to the school and the enhance community provision at the village hall.”
