Cardiff University student Rosey Stonehouse is in training again for the 2014 Bath Half Marathon on Sunday 2 March, and is urging runners who have secured a place in the race to join her in supporting the charity’s vital services for vulnerable children and young people.
Rosey, 20, who is studying social science and is originally from Saltford, between Bath and Bristol, said: “I recently finished an internship with ChildLine which greatly influenced my life and opened my eyes to all the amazing work that the NSPCC does.
“I was so grateful for all the opportunities. I used to jog to keep fit and as stress relief but when I saw an advert on the NSPCC website for the Bath Half Marathon I thought it was a perfect way of combining this with a way of expressing my gratitude for the internship. I also then knew first-hand where the money I raised would be going, which spurred me on even more.”
Money raised for the NSPCC through this year’s Bath Half Marathon will help to fund the charity’s work with children and young people who are most at risk.
NSPCC fundraiser Jo Pullin said: “This race follows a beautiful route in the heart of the stunning World Heritage City of Bath, straddling both sides of the River Avon. With 30 NSPCC runners so far, we hope to raise £20,000 for vulnerable children, so we’d love more people to run for the NSPCC and be part of it.
Jo continued: “We supply all runners with a welcome pack, a running vest and with on-going support to help them in their efforts. On the day, there will also be a post-race reception, with food and refreshments for NSPCC runners to enjoy.”
In addition to asking people with their own place to run for the NSPCC, the charity has a small number of guaranteed places in the event which it allocates to people who pledge to raise over £250 in sponsorship. There is also a registration fee of £20.
