After months of careful preparation and consultation, Cardiff Council’s move to weekly recycling launches on Monday 12th September.
In a move that will revolutionise the city’s approach to the recycling of waste, residents will have their recycling and food waste collected on a weekly basis with black bin/bags and garden waste collected on alternate weeks.
Cardiff residents have asked for weekly recycling and with the Council aiming to be a truly sustainable city, we have delivered these changes to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and help meet the Welsh Government recycling targets.
The majority of residents will also now have a change of collection day and we’ve made sure everyone has the information to hand so as smooth a transition as possible can take place. The service redesign team have used the latest GPS technology to plan routes to maximise fuel efficiency and vehicle use.
Coupled with the changing face of the city over the last ten years, this has resulted in the change of collection day for most of our residents.
Kerbside caddies, kitchen caddy liners and extra green bags have also been delivered to all households in the city so residents should be well equipped for this switch to weekly recycling.
They say:
“We have worked hard to ensure everything is in place for these important changes. If residents have any queries or problems please contact C2C on 2087 2087 or go online at www.cardiff.gov.uk/waste for full details of collection dates and how the new service will operate.”
Executive Member for Environment, Cllr Margaret Jones added:
“This is a big moment for Cardiff. We are putting a system in place that will ensure we all reduce, reuse and recycle more waste then we ever have before, making Cardiff a sustainable city to be proud of. We are grateful for the way Cardiff residents have worked with us on this and full assistance is available for those still unsure how this important new service will work.”
