Since a new initiative was launched in February last year, Park Services have issued 81 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) and have won three court cases against pet owners who do not clear up after their pets.

Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Ramesh Patel said:

“Park Rangers have been provided with training in order to enforce the law and successfully minimise the amount of pet owners who don’t clear up after their pets in our city’s parks and green spaces.

“Dog fouling and out of control pets are examples of anti-social behaviour which will not be tolerated. By increasing officer presence we can tackle the problem in communities, making culprits known that this is not acceptable and they will be punished if caught.”

The Urban Park Rangers provide a reactive service and act on the information and complaints from members of the public about irresponsible dog owners with a clear message ‘be in control of your dog and clean up after them or face a fine’.
.
In addition to carrying out enforcement, they also deliver educational events offering owners information and advice including the health dangers that dog fouling can have on children and also joint partnership events with Cardiff Dogs Home which offer a micro chipping service.
