A special event to showcase the services available to young people about to leave the care system was held recently.
Young people aged 11-25 were able to stop by at Caerphilly Leisure Centre for advice on personal, social and education opportunities. Caerphilly Leaving Care Team hold their own annual event to celebrate ‘National Care Leavers Week’. This year the event was in partnership with the Youth Service.
The friendly atmosphere allows the young people to make friends, and integrate themselves further into the community they have settled into.
Cllr. Judith Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Social Services said, “The Leaving Care Team work tirelessly to ensure that all of the young people who have been in our care and are ready to live independently, still receive the network of support that they deserve. The team develops relationships with the young people, acting as their confidants and helps provide them with support through everyday life”.
The Youth Service, who are involved with ‘National Care Leavers Week’ every year and maintain strong links with the Social Services, were keen to show the young people what is on offer within the community showcasing services from The Hub Communities First Project, Youth Forum, Youth Clubs and the Young Mums and Healthy Living Projects.
