Carers Day at Cardiff Central Library

Cardiff Logo smallA special information event where carers across the city will have the opportunity to access advice and information from local and national organisations will be held at Cardiff Central Library later this month.

A Carers Day on Friday November 29 (10am to 4pm) will provide those who look after others, whether on a professional basis or as ‘at home’ support, with face to face access to information on how to claim any benefits they may be entitled to, how to access practical support and find out how technology can help take the pressure off them.

The event has been organised by Cardiff Council’s Telecare and Community Alarm Service and the Central Library team and coincides with Carers Right’s Day, a national awareness day which takes places every year in the UK to ensure carers get the information and advice they need.

Representatives from the service will be available at Central Library to provide information to the thousands of carers of all ages in the city about the service, including the mobile warden service.

Telecare is a 24 hour local support service which has been operating in the area for over 20 years.  Through easy to use, non intrusive products and services, help from a specially-trained mobile team can be quickly summoned to a home by a simple touch of an alarm button.

The service is available to anyone, but specifically vulnerable adults who may need short or long term care because of a disability, illness or age.  The service allows people to live confidently and independently in their own home.

As well as the Telecare and Community Alarm team, Age Concern, Care & Repair and The Carers’ Centre will also be attending the event to offer practical advice to carers.

Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Social Justice, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said: “There are still so many people who are caring for others in our communities who are unaware of the support services that are available to them. The aim of this event is to provide people with relevant and up-to-date information that will help both them and the people they care for.”
