A Health and Social Care Co-ordination Forum for adverse weather has been established in Carmarthenshire.
The forum includes representatives from Carmarthenshire County Council’s health and social care departments, as well as technical services, education, leisure and emergency planning.
They are joined by representatives from partner organisations including Dyfed Powys Police and Hywel Dda Health Board.
Members of the forum met on Thursday (January 7) for the first time, and again on Friday afternoon (January 8).
The purpose of the forum is to ensure the continuation of health and social care services during adverse weather, with priority being given to frontline services.
Residential care, domiciliary care, assessment care management and out-of-hours care are currently being classed as a priority.
Bruce McLernon, Director of Social Care, Health and Housing for Carmarthenshire County Council, said: “We are working very closely with colleagues across all departments to ensure the continuation of service delivery to older and vulnerable people across the county.
“For example, colleagues in the leisure department have redeployed staff from its parks department who are using their 4×4 vehicles to drive our carers to service users living in rural locations which have been particularly hard hit by the weather.
“The forum is particularly useful in sharing information with the police and health services, and drawing on experience to ensure the best use of resources wherever possible.
“We will continue to meet throughout this prolonged period of adverse weather.”
