Most A and B roads in Carmarthenshire are now passable and traffic is flowing freely.
Gritting crews were out last night at 6pm last night and again this morning at 4am treating the primary route network due to the forecast icy conditions.
All of the A roads, apart from the A4069 Llangadog to Brynaman road over the Black Mountains, and most of the B roads including the primary gritting routes are now passable but caution should be exercised due to the presence of slush and melting snow. The A485 from Carmarthen to Llanybydder is open. The B 4333 Cynwyl Elfed to Newcastle Emlyn is now also open following major clearing works in very difficult conditions yesterday with drifts up to seven or eight foot in places on the highest parts.
Many of the smaller side roads still have a good covering of snow and therefore present difficult driving conditions.
A delivery of 100 tonnes of salt was received by the end of the day yesterday. Current stock levels will allow us to undertake between one to two days salting depending on the level of usage.
Minimum road surface temperatures last night were 0 degrees Celsius at the Red Roses out station.
Today crews will continue work on clearing the secondary routes and side roads. Additional plant and machinery, including JCBs, have been brought in to complete this work which will be done on a prioritised basis.
Operatives will be deployed from all service areas to help out as necessary to clear footways and side streets.
