After bidding goodbye to Eleri Siôn, who has now started her maternity leave, BBC Radio Cymru’s morning show host Dafydd Du welcomes Caryl Parry Jones into the hot seat.
Daf and Caryl have co-presented before and Caryl is looking forward to the challenge, and is even comfortable with the early mornings it brings, having to be in the BBC Wales studios in Cardiff by 7.30am ready for the 8.30am start.
“I’m an early riser anyway, so this isn’t a big change for me,” says Caryl, who has been a familiar face in Wales for almost four decades.
“It hasn’t always been so but, recently, I’ve started going to bed earlier and getting up early, so a 7.30am start hopefully won’t be a problem.”
Caryl is also looking forward to co-presenting with Daf Du.
“I think the world of Daf,” she says. “I like his style and how he deals with people, and so I’m very happy to be keeping the seat warm while Eleri is off.”
So just how does somebody fill Eleri Sion’s shoes?
“I’m not trying to copy Eleri Siôn,” says Caryl. “There’s only one Eleri Siôn! I have my own style and the show is really a talk show.
“And if there’s anything I like doing then that’s talking – chatting with friends, gossiping over coffee and all the better if I can talk and eat.
“I’ll talk about anything, from the General Election to why tortoises have shells. I’m going to love doing the show.”
