A £1.8 million cash boost is coming to Neath Port Talbot thanks to European funding.
Neath Port Talbot Council has been successful in its bid to secure money to fund four projects in the county borough.
The grant has come from the Rural Development Fund for Wales (RDP) funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Union over the next three years.
Projects getting the green light are ‘Enterprise Support for Rural Businesses’ (£169,351), ‘Improving Basic Services in Neath Port Talbot‘ (£529,358), ‘Conserving the Rural Heritage in Neath Port Talbot‘ (£1,099,306), and ‘Think Links, Think Rural, Think Sustainability’ (£77,923).
There are many elements within the four projects and new businesses, community transport, a credit union and Women’s Aid are some that are all set to benefit. Some of the money will go to rural heritage projects.
Other money will go to help build better links between all organisations working in rural parts of the county borough.
Thanks to the grant, a high quality environmental programme will get the go ahead in all rural wards in Neath Port Talbot where the emphasis will be on community involvement.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, has welcomed the announcement. He said, “This is excellent news for Neath Port Talbot and means many projects can go ahead.
“This funding builds on the success of the six RDP projects already running and due to come to an end next February.
“I would like to thank the businesses concerned for achieving this funding for another three years.”
