Cash Grants award evening for volunteers

A reception was held at Art Central in Barry recently in recognition of the commitment of local voluntary organisations.

Hosted by Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Gordon Kemp, the event saw 130 voluntary organisations receiving grants from the council this year – an overall total of £56,000.

Volunteers from a cross-section of organisations were represented on the evening.

Among those highlighted was Music in the Vale, which received a £1,750 grant. This money will go towards helping people like Ben Tarlton, a 15 year-old cellist from Llantwit Major, who provided a ten-minute performance on the night. Ben has won numerous awards for his musical abilities including Rotary Young Musician of the Year and the National Eisteddfod’s Blue Riband Prize for Under 16s Instrumentalist. He hopes to one day become a soloist performer.

Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society also performed a medley of songs on the night. The society was awarded a £750 grant which will help them carry out their aim to educate the community in dramatic and operatic arts.

Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader, Cllr Gordon Kemp, said: “This event acknowledges the hard work and dedication put in by all the voluntary organisations who have received a grant and I’d like to thank them all for their continuing efforts.”
