The City and County of Swansea has been awarded £181,875 from the Welsh Assembly Government via Communities First funding to pilot a Community Safety Project in Castle Ward.
This project, a partnership between the Council, other agencies and local groups and organisations, will be the first of its kind in Wales to focus solely on Community Safety and Tenancy Support issues and its principle aim will be to reduce the fear of crime.
Managed by the City and County of Swansea, the project will target the Waun Wen, Dyfatty, Greenhill and Brynmelyn areas of Castle Ward.
Speaking on behalf of her Castle ward colleagues, Cllr Barbara Hynes said: “My colleagues and I have worked hard to secure improvements in this area, which has been too long-forgotten. It may be small, but this unique project is a beginning. We all hope that it will have a positive effect in Waun Wen, Greenhill, Dyfatty and Brynmelyn.”
Councillor Alan Robinson, Cabinet Member for Community Regeneration, said: “Castle ward is one of ten Communities First areas in Swansea, which has its own particular problems. This project is a good example of how the Communities First programme can help to address the issues locally and make a real difference to the lives of the people who live and work in them.”
