Join in the fun as the Shelter Cymru charity celebrates its 30th birthday, with a special broadcast of their celebratory concert, Cyngerdd Shelter Cymru yn 30 on S4C. On Sunday evening, 27 November there will be a feast of entertainment with performances from the charity’s President Bryn Terfel and Vice-president soprano Rebecca Evans.
Other stars performing on stage at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, include The Three Welsh Tenors – Rhys Meirion, Aled Hall and Alun Rhys-Jenkins – and young singer Shaheen Jafragholi. Accompanying them will be Sinfonia Cymru conducted by Gareth Jones.
“The 30th birthday concert is a great way to mark such an important milestone, but amid the celebrations I ask people not to forget the thousands of families who would not have a home if it hadn’t been for the work Shelter Cymru does every day across Wales,” says Bryn Terfel.
“For 30 years, Shelter Cymru has been working tirelessly to prevent homelessness in Wales and as President I am very proud to be involved with a charity that has such a long history of helping some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
To coincide with its thirtieth birthday this year, Shelter Cymru has been running fundraising events throughout the year. A Cardiff to Paris cycle ride was held in September as well as art auctions in Penarth and Conwy.
Broadcaster Arfon Haines Davies will co-present the concert on stage along with presenter, Nicola Heywood Thomas.
Arfon has been a strong supporter of the charity since his father preached his support for Shelter Cymru as a minister of religion.
“This occasion is very special; it is not only an opportunity to raise money but to raise the charity’s profile further,” said Arfon.
“The line-up is incredible – so good that I almost wish I was in of the audience and not on stage presenting! There will be something to please everybody. But it’s an honour to be able to lead the celebrations, especially with Bryn Terfel there. He is such a loyal and hands-on President.”
The programme will also include short items documenting Shelter Cymru’s history and work over the past 30 years and offer an opportunity to see the charity making a difference to people’s lives across Wales.
