Copies of popular books are being given away for free at a number of Rhondda Cynon Taf libraries on Saturday, March 5, 2011, to mark World Book Night.
As part of the national celebration of reading, 40,000 books are being given away across the UK and Ireland.
At Beddau Library near Pontypridd, a special coffee morning will be held on March 5 between 10.30am and noon where a member of staff and three local people will hand out around 50 new books to readers who would like them. All are welcome to attend the free event.
Free copies of Philip Pullman’s book ‘Northern Lights’ will also be handed out at Pontypridd Library.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “This is a great way to encourage people to read new titles and discover new authors. We hope many people will come along to our libraries and enjoy receiving a free book, which they can keep, to mark World Book Night.”
Membership of all Rhondda Cynon Taf libraries is free and everyone living or working within the county borough is welcome to join. Find out more by visiting www.rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk/libraries
Supported by the Publishers Association, the Booksellers Association, the Independent Publishers Guild, the Reading Agency with libraries, World Book Day and the BBC, one million books will be given away during World Book Night by an army of readers to members of the public across the UK and Ireland.
