Celebrating the right to play

Busy, hectic and often overscheduled lifestyles sometimes mean children don’t always get enough time to just play.

Playday, the annual celebration of children’s right to play is on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, and NEW Play (North East Wales Play) will be celebrating this summer at a number of venues across the region, with a host of great play events taking place.

Simon Bazley, Executive Regional Play Development Officer, said: “National Playday is about asking people to take the time to consider how they can help children to access their right to play.

“Playing and hanging out with their friends is one of the most important aspects of all the lives of children and young people living in Wales: it contributes to their happiness, health, learning and their ability to thrive and survive. We believe that they can and should be able to play in
everyday ways almost everywhere that they spend their time. Making Wales a friendly place for playing is one way we can help children and young people feel part of (and take part in) the life of our communities.”
