Following a search of the area, three men were arrested on suspicion of theft and taken into custody.
Detective Sergeant Paul Latham, from Pontypridd CID, said: “The good people of Pontyclun are generous to give their unwanted clothing to charity and it’s despicable that people are taking advantage of their good nature.
“I would urge people who witness suspicious behaviour to contact us as soon as possible to give us the best chance of solving these crimes.”
The local Neighbourhood Policing Team is delivering leaflets in the area with crime prevention advice.
