Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is delighted to confirm that contractual work on both the leisure and learner pools at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre has now been completed. The work took a few weeks longer than initially planned due to the complex design of the pools and specialist parts required, however all work has now been successfully carried out and the pools were re-opened to the public on Friday 11th December 2009.
Swimming can be incorporated in to your weekly routine for a healthier lifestyle and has a number of benefits – did you know that regular swimming builds endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness? It can also serve as a cross-training element to your regular workouts.
Did you also know that…
* 30 minutes of steady paced lane swimming burns over 200 calories
* 30 minutes of activity in the water is worth 45 minutes of the same activity on land
* Any swimming that makes you breathe more heavily counts as ‘moderate’ activity – even treading water takes effort, so you are working most of the time you’re in the pool
* The water takes your weight, so swimming can be great for those who want low impact exercise – for example women during pregnancy or those who have mobility problems
* Swimming works your whole body for all over toning
* Swimming is great for your heart and helps circulation
* Swimming is great for the lungs
To help you benefit from all this and more, look out for special offers coming up in the New Year…
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Head of Leisure Services, Richard Marsh, commented “We are delighted that the work has now been completed and that the people of Merthyr Tydfil can once again enjoy all of the fantastic facilities we have to offer at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre.
We would also like take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while these maintenance works have been undertaken.
