Local residents over the age of 50 and their families are invited to attend an event next month to learn more about home and community safety issues.
The Cheese and Crime event will be held at Newbridge Leisure Centre on Thursday 1st July between 4pm and 6pm.
Various agencies including Gwent Police, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Safety Wardens and Trading Standards team will be on hand to offer some important home and community safety advice.
Information will be available on keeping safe both in the home and when out and about in the community, on income maximisation and on how to prevent becoming a victim of doorstep rogue traders and bogus callers.
Pupils from nearby Newbridge School will also perform a short play for visitors to the event on the dangers associated with doorstep rogue traders, bogus callers and tips on how to prevent becoming a victim.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said, “This event will provide an excellent opportunity to come along and find out more about safety issues, and to have a chat to various organisations about any safety related concerns people may have.”
PC Jeanette Pearce, ward officer for Newbridge, said: “During the event we will be on hand to speak to local residents and provide some tips on how to make sure they stay safe. Hopefully they will take away some useful information that they can put into practice to help reduce the likelihood of them becoming the victim of doorstep crime.”
This event is being organised by the Newbridge Community Partnership and Crosskeys & Pontywaun Partnership, together with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Regeneration team.
It is being funded by the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership as part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Reassurance for Older People initiative.
